  8.  AB    OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to make direct comparison of
  9.        the Mother-to-child HIV transmission rate (TR) in industrialized and in
  10.        developing countries. METHODS: A direct method of calculation of the
  11.        Gent Classification is used involving a case-by-case evaluation of all
  12.        the children born to HIV-1 seropositive mothers. RESULTS: TABULAR DATA,
  13.        SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: Following the Gent classification and
  14.        recommendations, in high prevalence countries and low prevalence
  15.        countries the rates are homogenous. Considering the lower and Median
  16.        estimates, the TR double for developing countries compare to
  17.        industrialized ones.
